Air show downpour...

I was super excited to go to the air show
on Saturday, because I'd heard
how great it was.

I'm a dork and thought that a cute
bomber jacket would
be appropriate
for the occasion.

I brought a poncho just in case it rained.
To say it rained was an understatement.

We were eagerly waiting to go through security
and when we went through, literally a few
minutes later it felt like someone with bucket of water
poured it over our heads. The wind was blowing and
I was trying to get my poncho on.

I had one guy holding my blanket and the other
guy trying to put my poncho on me,
to only have my head stuck.

Obviously the bomber jacket and my fashion
went down the tubes quickly.

Nonetheless we had a great time, went out for some
southern bbq and then watched the
thunderbirds show off they're skills.

I'd love to say I'll be back next year, but they don't come
around every year, we found out it's every three years.

So if I'm around, I'm thinking I'll give the air show another go.

Mother's Day

Photobucket
That's the fam circa probably 1979-1980 ish,
no clue what I'm trying to stuff in my mouth...
not much has changed, loved food then, love it now.

Anyway with it being Mother's Day on Sunday
I couldn't let it slide by without
saying a few words about my mom.

I adore this lady, and I'd say
we have the typical mother/daughter relationship.
Without words, I know when she disapproves
or approves of me, she's a typical latin
woman, blunt and honest.
I was raised here in the states,
needless to say we've butted heads on her brutal
honesty many a times.
But nonetheless I wouldn't change her for anything.

She laughs with me, cries with me,
is my biggest fan, has taught me
to love unconditionally, taught me to
work hard, to clean well, to cook and bake,
to be humble and be kind and generous.

If I grow up to be half the woman she is,
I think I'll have accomplished something good
in this lifetime.

Here's a few snaps from Mother's Day dinner,
the men in the family cooked quite the feast!
The menu included:
{BBQ'd meats, corn on the cob, watermelon, potato salad,
salads, fresh homemade bread, grilled & glazed pineapple,
and an oreo/brownie/mint ice-cream cake}
Yeowza these guys weren't messing around!

Thursday Pick-me Up

Photobucket
I was perusing through
family photos the other day
and came across
this blessed gem of a photo
of my dad, his siblings and my nonna.

I was laughing and still
can't stop laughing when I look at it
because this photo describes
their personalities impeccably.

In order from left to right:

Uncle Tito: He was the rico suave type, still is,
as you can see by his open shirt and crazy pants.

Nonna:  My grams, and she has the look
that all mom's do of 'behave yourself or else!'

Aunt Nina: Always the fashionable one,
who is a know-it-all, and likes to be in charge.

Aunt Carolina: Wearing a party hat
describes her perfectly as she loves to entertain
and make sure everyone is having fun.

My dad:  Yep, from the mustache, to the hand on his hips,
and a bit of a slouch, he's the kinda cooky and easy going one.

Ah good times & good memories!

It was a whirlwind weekend...
I just need my weekends to be one day longer.
Pretty sure that's on all
of our wish lists right?

I was busy busy all weekend
with errands,
a pinewood derby {yep me and some gf's made one...yeowza!},
Cinco de Mayo celebrations, and finally
some down time tonight with
delicious food and my
most relished thing ever...
Sunday walks in the evening.

Is next weekend almost here?

Feliz Cinco!

I know today's the 4th of May,
but I like to get ahead of myself
with Holidays.

To be honest I didn't
even know what Cinco de Mayo
was all about...history wise.
So I read up on it here
because every year
I celebrate it with
delicious Mexican food
so I figured I should
know what in the world
I'm celebrating.

And because it's a day all about
Mexico I think it only appropriate to share
one of my favorite songs by Mexican
singer Julieta Venegas.
Happy weekending and Feliz Cinco de Mayo amigos!

Delicousness

Some friends made the most amazing pie last week...
Nutella no bake pie.
I knew it was really good,
because I was mmmmm'ing a lot.
I had to tell myself to stop making obscene noises.

I asked for the recipe and they were kind enough to oblige.
So I'm making it this weekend
because who doesn't want a little
bit of chocolate/hazelnut heaven in their day?

Here's the recipe:
1 cup nutella
1, 8 oz. cream cheese
1 small tub of cool whip{or you can make your own cream}
1 package oreo cookies
{I might try nutter butters and have a chocolate/hazlenut/peanut butter combo...boom!}
5 Tbsp butter, melted
Hershey's chocolate to shave for the top

With your hand mixer combine nutella and cream cheese till creamy,
then add the cool whip.
Crush your oreos, melt the better and press into 9" pie pan.
Spoon up the creamy goodness into your pan,
top off with more cool whip and chocolate shaving and refrigerate
for 1-2 hours.

Voila and you're welcome!
