amazing how quickly the weekends go.

It was a busy weekend with the byu men's volleyball game,

friends birthday celebrations,

catching up with friends till 2 a.m. {getting too old for those wee hours},

our first real snow fall in the valley{snowshoeing is a must soon},

and having some of my dad's amazing chicken soup for Sunday dinner,

not a shabby way to end a great weekend.

Last week some of us went to Banana Leaf a new

Sri Lankan restaurant in Provo.

The ambiance, the food, the presentation

was all so delicious and foreign to my palate it

was refreshing.

If you're in the area I definitely suggest trying it out.

Over the Holiday's I read this amazing book, Intuitive Eating.

My friend had given it to me some time ago,

and unfortunately for me I got busy

and didn't get to it till now.

I am not a health expert, I realize that there are

a million ideas out there on what to do or not do.

I am just a chica that wants to be kind to my body{eat healthy & exercise}

& have a good relationship with food.

So when I picked up this book it helped me realize many things,

like listening better to when I'm full instead of just eating to be eating and so forth.

It is a book that makes sense on every level. It's not a diet or miracle working book.

It just brings you back to the basics like these 10 principles outlined.

If you're looking for a good read on health, I highly recommend it.

The sky is painted with intense shades of pink, orange, blue & maroon.

Now that the Holiday's have sadly left us, I've got my sights

on vacationing in the sun and away from this brown cold winter {sadly no snow this year yet}.

Which I will be gladly doing end of February in the Caribbean.

I'm so so excited and looking forward to exploring some islands

{Bahama's, St. Maarten, St. Thomas & Grand Turk}.

It's my first time to the Caribbean...

so if you have any tips please send them my way.

Meanwhile...shhhh...I'm daydreaming!

2011 in review.

Happy New Year, welcome 2012!

This year seemed to have flown by at times, and at others it was in slow motion.

It was a good year.

I am too lazy to do a post filled with pics so this'll have to do.

I started January last year with snowshoeing in the winter wonderland that surrounded us {sadly not the case this year, no snow yet this December}. My darling little nephew Odin was born a couple weeks later, he's a barrel of laughs and I can't get enough of his chubby cheeks.

The month ended with a bit of a fender bender with a dog and me feeling horrible.

Thank goodness February started out with a relaxing weekend to Park City with a good friend, just what the Doctor ordered. Later on in the month I took a trip to

San Francisco to see my brother and his darling family and see my brother play lacrosse.

It was truly splendid...I love those little nieces of mine and the California sunshine was much

welcomed in the drear of February.

March was filled with baking new recipes, a minor wax mishap, a color festival at the Hare Krishna temple and watching the Real play some great soccer.

April started out the month with a 5k with some of my cousins which we were

hoping for in warmer weather, but nonetheless we had a grand time.

Got hit on with some interesting pick-up lines such as this one and this one along

with some good and not-so-good dates.

I started a hip-hop class with some friends and loved dancing my tuesday evening away.

Easter traditions with the family is how the month ended.

During May the sun barely starting coming out...not much of a spring.

A road-trip to Colorado to help my brothers move home turned out to be not all work, we squeezed in some hiking and relaxing. I was ecstatic to go to my first U2 concert. It was a dream come true and I was elated for weeks after.

In June my brothers and I decided to have a paella cook-off and see who's paella was the best

amongst the judges. Peter won, which the other two refuse to accept.

With a cousin in town from Jersey we decided to take her to gem of

southern Utah to Zion National Park. The much anticipated hip-hop performance finally happened and

it went surprisingly well. The last weekend in June was

very busy with my brother's sealing, a baptism and baby blessing.

The 4th of July was kicked off by running the 5k Freedom Run in downtown Provo, a family bbq, and fireworks. The month was busy with all of the things I love about summer: pool time, shaved ice,

bbq's, movies under the stars and evening walks.

August found all of the family together from everywhere so family pictures were in order.

Since summer was on its way out squeezing some tennis time was a must.

As usual I have impeccable timing for all things including vacation time

in NYC during the earthquake and Irene fiasco. Luckily I got to extend my trip and

fit in all of the things I love including my first time at the U.S. Open...dream come true!

With one last summer holiday {Labor Day} I returned from NYC and a few days later packed my

bags and headed to Wyoming with some friends for some small town hospitality.

As soon as the October crisp air hit, I was ecstatic for all things autumn, including the Sundance Moon lift ride with good friends...a must around these parts. Another must is the Witche's Night Out at Gardner Village. I then went on a quick trip to San Francisco with my cousin and parents where we enjoyed all that the Indian summer offered. Halloween was a superhero good time with friends and I'm thinking each year should be a theme with friends.

November was a whirlwind month with some unexpected events such as my dad's health scare any my nonna's passing, but in light of it all it was good and what a blessing to have the family I do. Before I knew it Thanksgiving was around the corner. I had a great time helping set the table, helping in the kitchen, watching movies and relaxing.

December always comes and goes in the blink of an eye. Sometimes I wish I could hold it in my hand a bit more, but such is life. It was a great month with the traditional visit to Temple Square, a wonderful birthday celebration, many holiday gatherings with friends and a great Christmas with my family.

Usually when I reflect back on the year I think not much has happened or changed.

But one of the sole reasons I started blog journaling was to have something to look

back on and see the events, progression and what I can work on for the upcoming year.

I am super excited about a new year.

I love a new year, it's a clean slate with new dreams and goals.

Here's to 2012!

It was a work hard, play hard kind of month.

There were get together's with many old and new friends.

Lot's of food.

Shopping for Christmas.

Christmas lights on each corner.

Dressy Holiday parties.

It really is the most wonderful time of the year.

This past Wednesday I turned 34!

Wow...I can't believe it, I'm almost to my mid-30's and you know what....

it feels awesome.

I used to think in my mid-20's the creeping age thirty was the scariest thing ever.

Then 30 came and went and poof I was still Bev.

I wasn't this old, haggard, boring person that I imagined a 30 year old to be.

Over the years I have come to realize that aging is a privilege.

The grey hairs, the smile lines and crows feet I'm beginning to get,

not sure I'll welcome the saggy ta-ta's...

but overall I am grateful for another year of life,

another year of experiances,

joys,

pains,

perhaps some more smile lines

and grey hairs.

It means I get to live and change.

Become better and wiser.

Fall down and get back up.

Enjoy the beauty of earth,

& the simple pleasures life offers.

So here's to 34

I plan on making it another beautiful year.

On Sunday I went to the beautiful Temple Square with the familia.

It never feels like the Holidays are quite here until I go.

It's always bustling with families, couples and children.

The children seem to always be bundled up

like the kid from The Christmas Story with noses bright red {cute cute}!

We then came back to my parents place and warmed up next to the fireplace.

The perfect ending to a great night.

Brazilian brunch.

My brother has been telling me for weeks

that we need to try out the new Brazilian restaurant

in downtown Provo.

Saturday we met up for brunch and it was amazing.

I loved it because it wasn't buffet style, all you can eat aka

I wear stretchy pants and get stuffed silly.

You pay for a plate and trust me it's plenty o' grub

and the meat...oh the meat is amazing.

I've been craving all week.

Pretty sure I need to pay them another visit.

The Holiday's have arrived.

It's the 1st of December...which of course means I can officially start

listening Buble's amazing Christmas album{who am I kidding, I started listening a couple weeks ago}.

Bring on all of that hot chocolate with peppermint,

Holiday treats made only this time of year,

the smell of pine,

and heaps more.

The goal this year, to get my shopping done this weekend...holy moly it'd be a Christmas miracle!

Feasting and Giving Thanks

Well Thanksgiving was glorious as usual. I was in charge of making the stuffing

and setting/decorating the table.

I had lots of fun with that part {thank you Pinterest for the ideas}.

It's such a great Holiday that allows me

to reflect on all of the things I'm grateful for and there are so many:

Family, friends, Sunday dinners, key lime yogurt{Oiko's brand - my latest obsession},

sunsets, early morning workouts, checking things off from my to-do lists,

fresh clean sheets, smiles from strangers, nieces and nephews, books,

music, and oh so much more.

Truly my cup runneth over with all of the wonderful blessings I'm thankful for.

This past weekend I was in dire need of just doing some r&r...which I did.

Out to eat with friends, movies, retail therapy,

read by the fire, scrumptious Sunday dinner with the fam,

gushing over my nephew Odin.

After the luncheon at the church we all sat around chatting,

reminiscing, and then some singing which is when we

waterproof mascara

I bought waterproof mascara a couple weeks ago by mistake. I don't like the stuff, because it takes forever to wash off and I'm too impatient.

Life is funny sometimes, the waterproof mascara came in handy.

It started with my darling dad. He went into the hospital for a pulmonary embolism, not a good thing. He was admitted on a Friday so they could monitor his blood levels. By Saturday he got to come home.

That Saturday I went to my parents place to see him. While there my mom got a phone call from the rest home that my Nonna {Italian for grandma and what we grand-kids have always called her} was not doing well and would perhaps not make it through the night.

When it rains it's always followed by a downpour, no doubt about that. My Nonna did make it through the night, in fact she made it till Wednesday morning when she passed away at the age of 93. Everyone in our family gathered around to wish her a sweet farewell into the next life. Everyone of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren flew or drove in for her. Tuesday night the last grandchild drove in from California to see her, I have a hunch she wasn't going to leave until she got to say goodbye to everyone.

She lived a great life, married my sweet Nonno who was an immigrant from Italy. Together they owned hotels, vineyards, grocery stores and a ranch in central Chile. They moved to the states in the 70's and then traveled between the states, Chile and Italy. She was the typical Latin women, opinionated and blunt. But inside of her tough exterior she was a loving and giving person who was constantly pinching my arm to sit up straight, lived to play a practical joke and made the best homemade ravioli's I have ever had.

Nonna, your memories I will always carry in my heart.

Your legend will live on.

Your posterity will continue strong.

Until we meet again.

The thing I love about Halloween though,
dressing up of course, candy comes in a close 2nd.

I don't see this changing anytime soon.

I will probably be one of those mom's that the kids go to my door to trick-or-treat
and I'll be all decked out in my costume...
and yes I'll make the hubby do it with me{we'll be the crazies of the neighborhood}.

It's just so fun to be something other than yourself for an evening!

This year I've got something fun up my sleeve, can't wait to wear it.

Some girlfriends and myself are all on the same theme...grand times ahead.

San Francisco is always the city that I feel most alive in...

and I've been to many a city in my little life.

I think it's that big red bridge{the gg}, the ocean breeze,

those hilly streets, the fog, trolley's,

the quaintness felt even though it's a bustling city.

Those are just some of the reasons I love it there.

San Fran you just never get old.

I'm thinking this little love affair we have is here to stay!

Thursday is my favorite day of the week...yes yes I know it's Wednesday today.

But Wednesday's
are my second favorite day of the week.
It means the weekend is almost here and I live for my precious weekends.

Luckily this weekend I'm heading out of town to my all time favorite city-- San Fran--
for some r&r.
I plan on taking loads of pictures, breathing in that salty ocean air and spending time with family.

On another note.

Have you heard Coldplay's new song Paradise??
Well if not listen here it's amazing. They're new album comes out on Monday.
I'm counting down the days to buy it, they're one of my favorite bands.
One day I will see them in concert....one day!

I finally saw saw Mr. Flower's Mormon ad here.
It's good to see Latter Day Saints proudly saying who they are.

One of my absolute favorite things to do once that autumn chill arrives

is the full moon lift ride at Sundance ski resort.

You bundle up, get some hot cider and chat away on the lift

all the while you have that big beautiful moon shining down on you.

As many times as I've been before, it still doesn't get old...see here.

a girl's night in while the men are out listening to the good word,
making these for my sis-in-law's birthday dinner,
and hopefully taking a drive on the Alpine loop for some fantastic fall foliage.

I'm a sucker for J. Crew, always have been.
But I'm even more of a fan when their Fall catalog comes out.
I absolutely adore their style{I'm such a preppy at heart}.

It's enough for me to want to forgo my groceries, savings & bills
so I can go on a shopping spree there.

But I won't, the logical side of me always speaks loud and clear.

But a girl can dream, no?

The Big Apple

Even though the week started out a bit rocky because of the hurricane,

I made sure to pack in as much as I could in the few days following.

Museums, my favorite Shake Shack, the U.S. Open {we got to see Venus Williams & Federer in the same evening}, Central Park, window shopping on 5th, top of the rock for a spectacular view of the city, and a visit with Lady Liberty.

I can't complain. I had a wonderful time with friends and one of my favorite cities ever.

Small town hospitality.

Labor Day weekend was abundant with great food, great friends and the smell that only comes from vast fields of farmland.

We ate to our hearts content, thanks to my friend Katie's sweet mother that should truly have her own cookbook, had late night bonfires and sang to the sweet sounds of guitar, watched movies outside under the stars, went to Fort Bridger's Rendezvous{best people watching ever}, went on walks and just relaxed.

It was such a stark contrast to the beginning of my week in NYC--I enjoyed every minute of Wyoming's charm.

NYC turned out to be lovely{pics to come soon}.
Stayed an extra day and got to soak it all up...including the U.S. Open!
I felt like a lucky gal that Irene was well behaved and didn't cause too much damage.

I haven't even begun to unpack, my room's a mess,
but I wouldn't pass up an opportunity for a road trip with some of my favorite friends.
So I'm repacking and heading to Wyoming to my friends family ranch after work.

Lady Irene has arrived.

Hurricane Irene is here.

I am not in Utah, I flew to the east coast and arrived on Friday morning.

I have always had impeccable timing for things like these.

The plan went like this:

Long Island for some beach time.

Shopping.

Eating all my faves.

Top of the Rock.

US Open

etc

Has any of that happened?

Nope.

But all is well. We are safe and that's all that matters.

I am staying with friends in NYC.

They are gems and have everything ready.

We have 72 hour kits, food galore, water and are just waiting.

Waiting for what Irene has in store for us.

We hope its mild, but the news says otherwise.

At the moment, the window is cracked open.

I can feel the wind, hear the rain and

we're watching Australia.

The first of many movies I'm sure unless our power goes out.

I am hoping that by tomorrow evening we can go out

and try to enjoy some time in the city and hopefully

the US Open on Monday, fingers crossed.

But for now all I really hope for is safety,

the rest is just icing on the cake.

The expression when it rains it pours is so so true. Last weekend was a wonderful and memorable weekend with my brother being sealed to his wife and baby in the temple, my other brother's girlfriend getting baptized and my nephew being blessed.

By Sunday night my head hit the pillow and I was out, but what a wonderful reason to be exhausted for such events as these.

Remember how I was in a hip-hop dance class? Well the performance happened last Monday. All of us in class were a bit of a ball of nerves before going on stage. We recited and recited so much that I would dream about dancing.

I didn't record our performance to be able to show you, but overall I think it went pretty well! Pretty sure I'll be taking it again in September, it's an hour of endorphin, hip shaking fun...who can say no to that?

My cousin from Jersey was in town visiting. We wanted to show her the gem that lies south of us. Southern Utah is truly one of my favorite places to visit and Zion always leaves me in awe of all the beauty that surrounds me.

So we headed down south for the weekend and had a great time. Last year I hiked Angel's Landing for the first time and swore I would never do it again. I am terrified of heights and this hike is not only strenuous, but the last half mile requires you to hold onto chains so you don't fall of the cliff.

Not my idea of fun, but you do what you gotta do when you're the hostess right? We made it just fine to the top and the view is spectacular, so it was worth it. But mark my words, that is the last time I'm doing that hike.

The cook-off

A few weeks ago we kicked off spring with a paella cook-off. Why a paella cook off you may ask? I have 4 brothers, out of the 4, 3 served their LDS mission in beautiful Spain, and all 3 went to different regions of the country.

They are constantly bragging about how theirs is the best paella. So in order to put the arguing to rest we had a cook-off, we ate, we judged and a winner was pronounced.

I happen to think that all three paella's were delicious and in my book they were all winners. But if they all want to have another duel to prove theirs is the best, I will gladly welcome that.

I got to mark off going to a U2 concert from my bucket list on Tuesday night. I can't explain how elated and giddy I was, but my cheeks hurt from smiling from ear to ear and my throat hurt from screaming so loud. I was about 14 people away from Bono, and the Edge...it was quite possibly the most magnificent evening ever. Can I just quit my job and become a groupie...in my dreams!

It is no surprise that Mother Nature is very hormonal lately with all of the rain, tornado's, record low temps and high temps all over the place in the country.

Although I am very happy that I don't have to deal with my house being picked up by high winds, I am so so so sick of this dreaded rain!

It rains and rains and rains here in Utah and although it does make everything look so green and lush, it's a bit annoying and depressing. I felt like I won the lottery when it didn't rain this past Saturday for my little paella shin-dig{pics to come later}. But now it's back to rain.

In other interesting news I woke up yesterday morning with my left eye swollen and this morning it is still swolen and smaller than my right eye. I feel uber unattractive at the moment because I look like Quasimoto.

On the road...

There's nothing quite as liberating as getting in the car and driving away for the weekend. Over the weekend I went to Colorado to help my brothers move back to Utah.

I always like to mix pleasure in with work because it makes life much more enjoyable. It was a great time hiking, going to see the largest sand dunes in the nation, have guitar jam sessions, making yummy shrimp tacos, face masks with the sister missionaries and of course getting hungry on the ride home and in despair stopping off at Burger King.

I think road trips are always an adventure to be had.

Saturday my roomie and friend coaxed me into going to the Hare Krishna colors festival.

If you're from the area, you surely know about it or have seen the zombie like people walking around town every year with all their brightly colored and chalk infested clothing and hair.

I have honestly never had a desire to go, not sure why, but perhaps the idea of just getting that chalky didn't sound appealing or that it seemed like the young college scene was another turn off.

Well a few of us friends went and we were all first timers at this festival. It was fun to see everyone covered in bright colors, throw chalk at one another and to listen to the interesting music played.

I will say it was fun, but it was a one time event for me--showering twice in a row to get chalk out of my hair is where I draw the line.

Coincidentally on Sunday my family was having a bit of an Indian feast, my brother wanted to try and make some delicious chicken tikka masala. It was so so good. We feasted on tikka masala, homemade naan and mango lassi's.

I was stuffed happy.

Oh and I made the samoa bars--yep amazing as well.

It was a fun weekend that truly felt themed, but was in no way planned that way.

I've been in the baking mood, all I want to do is stay home from work and make all sorts of sugary sweets. The likelihood of me baking all day is slim to none, so I'll take my weekends to bake away.

Over the weekend I made the most delicious tart...seriously it was to-die-for! I found the recipe here and am thinking that this coming weekend I'll be making homemade samoa bars.

The baking madness just can't be stopped!

Sometimes I wonder how I get through daily life with my constant clumsiness. I am always tripping, did it just a bit ago on my way to the bathroom with a co-worker behind me{awesome}.

Hitting my head or other body parts. The other day I hit my shin on the leg of my bed.

Or just having awkward moments.

Once while kissing a cute boy, he tickled me and I accidentally farted in front of him. I tried to pretend it didn't happen, but he was no dummie because he asked if I had farted. I of course laughed and looked at him like he was ridiculous and said absoloutly not and I would have denied that one to the grave.

Anywho my point in telling you all these incidents is that I struggle on a daily basis with not making a fool of myself.

A few weeks ago a friend wanted me to wax his eyebrows{mostly his uni-brow}. He came over, we got to talking and I put the wax in the microwave and lost track of time. I then hear my roommate say, "Bev something smells like it's burning out here!" I go out to find the wax had been boiling and overflown and it even melted the container it was in. Needless to say, I tweezed him that night.

Which leads me to my next waxing story, which also leads me to believe that I should no longer try waxing anyone or myself anymore.

On Saturday I was getting ready to go out. I bought new wax and was eager to get my brows all shaped up. I was on my bed with a mirror and the wax, bad combo already, I'm aware of this.

I take the applicator and go to put the wax above my top brow right as I feel it dribble down into my brow and past into my eye. I blinked at this moment and my eyelashes were stuck together.

Sheer panic at this moment.

If I were to rip it off I would be stuck with no eyelashes...uber attractive.

So I took a hot hot washcloth and stuck it on my eye in hopes of melting the wax and wiping off.

Naturally while in a state of panic the doorbell rings.

Curse words in my head.

It was my roomies mom, in from out of town, and the roomie was gone.

Lovely.

She asked if I had an accident, can't imagine why she'd think that with hair in a huge bun, sweats and a washcloth over my eye.

I explained my ridiculous run in with the wax and told her I was fine.

She was on her way and I was in the bathroom for 30 minutes trying to reopen my eyes. I got the wax off and I still have brows and eyelashes in tact.

The point of the story, I need not play with wax anymore, I clearly struggle.

The Bay

Last weekend I went to Sonoma and stayed with my older brother and his darling family. It was a perfect weekend to go since my twin brothers were coming from Colorado to play a couple lacrosse games with their university.

I got to play with my two adorable nieces{we did everything from princess stories to watching Toy Story 3 about 10 times--no joke}, drove around charming and beautiful Sonoma and it's wine country, went to San Fran, and then to the Oakland temple and unfortunately saw my brothers lose their two games, but I was there for moral support.

Last but not least we Santamaria's did what we do bestest, which is of course to eat yummy food and poke fun at one another--so entertaining!

So after a bit of a rough week{and this incident} I was so so so ready for a weekend of absolutely nothing but some r&r.

R&R is what I did.

A friend invited me to spend the night in the twinkly town of Park City nestled in the mountains. It was also twinkly with all those famous stars from Hollywood for the Sundance film festival. But I had no intentions to do any star gazing. Nope not this lady.

We ladies hot-tubbed, watched endless episodes of Modern Family all the while our tummies were happy with Cafe Rio.

The next day was filled with snowshoeing, sweet potato fries, and a grizzlies game.

Can't think of a better way to have ended a mayhem week.

Broken

So today was one of those days in the history of Bev I'd like to take a pill and completely forget.

My brother has a term that he and his friends use. They say they're broken when they're having one of those days, weeks or however long the span of time is, when it all seems to go wrong and one ends the day feeling broken. I can safely say it's been one of those weeks for me. Thank goodness the week is just about done though.

The reader's digest version, because that's how long it took for the incident to happen is this.

I was driving to work, while listening to NPR...yes I still listen and I know I'm a geek...when a little white, furry and cute puppy darted out in front of me. There was no time to hit the brakes because that's how fast it happened. Before I knew it my car hit the dog with full force and I heard and felt the most horrific sounds, and then I saw a white ball of fluff fly across my car into the middle of the street.

This was followed by me screaming and then sobbing. I have to tell you, I am not an animal lover, never have been. But I would never ever hurt an animal on purpose.

Needless to say I was and still am a bit traumatized. Some poor family is out there mourning the loss of their little white fluff of fun, meanwhile I'm feeling like a dog killer.

The officer assured me it wasn't my fault and said it's a dog owner's responsibility to always keep their dogs on leashes. But I gotta say it didn't really comfort me too much.

I am ready for a new week.

An auntie again!

I'm an auntie again and this time to my first nephew, super excited!

Odin Adolfo Santamaria arrived on January 14th at 5:15 p.m. 6 pounds, 15 ounces, 18 and a half inches long with big eyes, chubby cheeks and lots of dark hair.

Can't wait to spoil another kid.

I feel like the creative juices have just stopped flowing. I have not been in the blogging mood, most likely because it's January and the dead of winter is upon us and it's so darn cold I want to scream, and I'm sick of there not being light and warmth all over me.

Let me tell you what else I'm sick of, not finding parking spots at work, so I have to walk what seems like forever in the cold, and today there was not ice, but puddles so my feet got soaked and I can't seem to get warm.

Wow I sound like a downer. I promise I'm not, but it's winter that I think has us all in a blah kind of mood. The fun holidays are over and the thought of cold until about May{because let's be honest it's Utah and it'll probably still be snowing then}makes me want to cringe!

On the upside it is a three day weekend, oh bless those 3 day weekends and I have some fun things planned...hopefully some more snowshoeing{my favorite thing to do in the winter}.

There's also a little nephew that should be born any minute now...can't wait to meet the little guy!

So really I just need to get out of my blah winter gloom mood and think that soon it'll be warm again and I'll be soaking up the rays and getting back to a semi-normal shade of skin color versus this yellow tone I've been sporting.

Alright enough venting.

2010 in review

A little review of the last year. It's mostly for me to look back on and recall things, but if you want to read through a long post, I'll know you are either really bored or amazing friends!

Here's a little recap of 2010.

January-March

January began the new year with one of my goals for the new year accomplished, which was to learn how to ski. I finally conquered my fear and can finally feel like a true Utahn. Being the long winter months I entertained myself with one of my favorite winter sports, snowshoeing, went to lots of movies like Avatar and got even a little wild with getting bangs cut--my first time since being in grade school. February in the midst of winter gloom we brightened it up with a paella party, a girls night out for the big V-day to the most delicious restaurant-- Communal-- in Provo. Of course how could I forget the whirlwind wedding that was organized and took place at my parents place with 4 hours notice. March was a blur to be honest, probably because I was in such desperate need of warmth and sunlight.

April-June

April began with my family's traditional Easter at my uncles home. I had been in dire need of a little rest and relaxation, so a couple of friends and I decided to head south for some sun and fun in St. George. We hiked Angel's Landing in Zion and did some fabulous shopping in Las Vegas. It was just what I needed before starting summer school in May for my last math class to be able to graduate. May was my brother's wedding reception{this time with more than 4 hours of prep time} and it turned out to be beautiful. For Labor day I decided to take a quick trip to San Diego to see my friend Leyah. We spent our time at the beach, driving the coast, going to a Padre's game and soaking up the sun. June was a very busy month with school, work, and a quick weekend trip to my friend's cabin at Fish Lake{my saving grace that month}, thank you Suz. I took my very last final for math and passed with a B, a miracle thanks to the wierdest{and smelliest}math teacher from New Zealand and the grace of God. I was done with school and officially graduated!

July-September

July started off with a family trip to San Francisco for the 4th of July. We made sure to cram in all my favorites while there, Muir Woods, downtown SF, Stinson beach and wine country. The lazy summer months were savored with tennis, bbq's, boating on Utah Lake, rodeo's, outdoor concerts, & hikes to beautiful water falls. August I got to visit a new city, a new found favorite, thank you Chicago and Cathy for being an amazing hostess to us gals. I loved the windy city, the pie pizza, the architecture and seeing all the security in town for Obama's arrival. September was the winding down of summer. I went to the Utah state fair, which I hadn't been since I was in grade school, learned how to make pie from scratch, thank you Mrs. Brett and went to a BYU football game, a first in a long time for me{thank you Peter for letting me know when exactly to cheer}.

October-December

October was kicked off with General Conference, the best way to start off a month. I love autumn and all it entails. The month was filled with drives up the canyon to see the fall foliage, corn mazes, haunted forests and all the yummy fall treats that I look forward to each year. The end of October I went to Washington D.C. for work with my friend Leyah. We definately mixed business with pleasure. We crammed in all the amazing sights D.C. had to offer in the week we were there. That weekend was Halloween so we hopped on a bus and headed to NYC for some more fun. We celebrated my good friend Malia's birthday and headed to the Cathedral of St. John the divine for a silent movie and a costume show of sorts. It was great to see the fall colors in central park, a first for me there that time of year. November came and went in the blink of an eye. But I was glad I got to spend Thanksgiving at home with family and all the traditional foods and activities. December also flew by with getting ready for Christmas, holiday parties, ice skating, Christmas concerts, reuniting with old friends, and lastly getting to see my dearest friend Brett get married{a big congrats to two amazing people}. I got to relax over the Christmas break, spending hours with my pj's on and not feeling a bit guilty about it.

And now onto 2011!

This past Monday I got together with some dear friends that I have known for at least a decade. We reunited for a little spa day and dinner and of course to catch up on one another's latest happenings.

It was just as much fun as the good ol' days and we are now thinking a spa day after the hectic holiday rush will become our tradition.

I love good friends that you haven't seen in a while and yet when reunited it feels like no time has passed at all.

Gallivan Center and Gourmandise

Have I mentioned that I love ice skating?

Well I do, I'm no Nancy Kerrigan, but I can hold my own on the rink.

Saturday some friends and I went to celebrate my friend's birthday at the Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake.

Round and round the rink we skated, laughing and observing others and their skills or lack of.

On the observing of fellow ice skaters my friend Brian noticed a girl--probably mid 20's-- that had fallen and when she got up from her fall he noticed she'd peed her pants. Now if that were me, I'd march myself right out of there and go home. Not this brave soul, she kept ice skating and just pulled her shirt down. Brave souls out there I tell ya!

Then another brave man or just a pure idiot was spotted by another friend. He had a gun, very noticeably attached to his belt. Fifteen minutes later the cops came and he was questioned and escorted out.

Afterwards we walked to Gourmandise and had ourselves some yummy sandwiches, soup and pastries.

Oh how I love ending an evening with good company and pastries. Truly doesn't get better than that.

Mo-Tab & David Archuleta

In all my year's in Utah I have never been to the Mormon Tabernacle Christmas Concert.

So when I got the invite to go, of course I jumped on that train. Plus squeaky-clean & cute-as-a-button David Archuleta was the special guest so that only added to my excitement.

It was so great to hear the choir live and to be in the amazing conference center. It really felt like the Holiday season was official with all the Christmas music and cheer of being around temple square.

Random thing happened as the concert ended and I was getting my coat on.

This guy kept looking at me and finally came up to me and said, 'Alicia is that you?'

I chuckled{kindly of course} and said, 'No I'm sorry, I'm not Alicia.'

He quickly scurried off. Not sure if it was a weak, very weak pick-up line or if I have a doppleganger out there named Alicia.

Let it Snow

I looked out the window this morning to finally see a bit of snow on the ground, thank goodness!

There's only a little, but it's much better than nothing. It's December and we've hardly gotten any snow--even our 'blizzard of the century' was a doozy.

A white Christmas is a must in my opinion--still hoping for it.

To listen to all those Christmas songs that make your heart all warm & fuzzy.

To sit by the Christmas tree all aglow with a cup of hot cocoa.

To go see the magical lights at temple square.

To ponder on the birth of our Savior.

My favorite time of year is back and I only wish it lasted a little bit longer.

Last Thanksgiving I was here:

{Kauai}

It was so wonderful to wake up to the sound of waves crashing, an agenda of absolutely nothing other than making sure my tan was even, eating pineapple galore and reading a good book. It truly was a slice of heaven.

But I missed having the traditional family Thanksgiving we have every year where I pack up my overnight bag and head to my parents place. My brothers are up early for the turkey bowl, my mom, sister-in-law's and I are in the kitchen baking away and the aroma's of turkey, stuffing, pies, rolls, & potatoes fill the air. After enjoying a delicious meal, we all go put on our sweats & head to the family room to watch movies.

So I am eager as can be for tomorrow's traditions!

Thanksgiving always gets me thinking of how thankful I am for everything I have. The list truly is so long it could go on forever, which that in itself is something to be thankful for. Lately my thoughts of gratitude are for the same things they are every year, but with deeper appreciation for those things such as the gospel, family, friends, having a job, and having good health.

So here's to another year of gratitude--Happy Thanksgiving!

Weekend Recap

1. Fell asleep through quite a bit of Harry Potter--but don't worry, eyes were open during the controversial nudey scene.

2. Lunch & girl talk with girlfriends--always essential.

3. A wee bit of shopping.

4. Pedi's--another must, even though the toes aren't being shown off because of the winter, I like knowing they're buffed and polished.

5. Pizza party, smore's & movies on a cold, blustery night.

And now it's back to Monday--but I'm oh-so-grateful it's a short work week!

Have I ever mentioned that I am not a Harry Potter lover or fan?

Well year after year I claim I'm not. Yet year after year I get roped into going to these Harry Potter movies. You guessed it, I'm going on Friday. I must secretly like HP...but I am sticking to my story that I don't.

So while in D.C. we walked around one night for about 5 hours. I had on these cute purple suede flats. Cute, but not the best for walking for hours on end. My toes were killing. I took off my red nail polish the other night to find that I had 2 purple toenails. No wonder my toes were killing. I am hoping they don't fall off. The last time I got purple toenails was when I went hiking with Cathy in Canada and my toenails did fall off. TMI? Sorry.

I am beyond ecstatic for Thanksgiving! This holiday season is truly one of my favorites. The gathering of family around the table with the best comforts foods is reason enough to celebrate. My favorite is the stuffing, I think I'd be content just eating stuffing all night.

Well that's all I got for now, this chica is tired and ready to hit the sack.

What more can I say than I love NYC.

Every time I go, I get to see a bit more of the Big Apple that I didn't see before.

The Cloisters, enchanting Central Park in the autumn, Fred's for the most divine egg's benedict, and last but not least the best chocolate chip cookie I've ever eaten--no lie.

I'll have to ask my dear friend Malia what the name of the bakery was because my mouth is watering as I'm typing.

NYC you always treat me so right--thank you.

The District

Last week I was in D.C. for business, but of course I made sure to add some pleasure in there too.

I love going back east, it's so different from the west and what a wonderful time of year to be there when all the leaves are the most beautiful and vibrant colors.

I stayed with my dear friend Abbie and it reminded me how no matter how much time goes by if one is really great friends with someone it seems as though conversations pick up right where they left off. That was most definitely the case.

I also did some sightseeing in the evenings. I love walking around the monuments of our nation's capital. It gives me such pride to be from this wonderful & blessed country.

Funny story.

While walking around the Dupont area of D.C. Leyah and I noticed so many people everywhere. We weren't quite sure what was going on. We finally stopped and asked someone. We were informed that the 'Drag-queen high heel race' had just finished. Sure enough we turned the corner to see drag-queen's galore.

Yeowza what a sight!

It was good to do all the things I wanted to see and do{monuments, Georgetown, Eastern Market, etc.}, all while attending a course during the day.

I love mixing business with pleasure.

Happy Halloween to everyone!

It's been a fun-filled Halloween weekend with family and friends in the city.

Halloween in the city is the best people watching ever-in my opinion.

Friday night we went to The Procession of the Ghouls at The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine.

It was the most interesting thing I've ever done for Halloween. A silent movie accompanied by the organ followed by a cat-walk of sorts with the most amazing costumes I've ever seen.

The ambiance was an act in itself, so amazing.

Now I'm enjoying a full tummy of home-made gnocchi's, relaxing in my pj's, hearing the door knock from trick-or-treater's and getting ready to watch Harry Potter.

What a pleasant evening--how lucky am I?!

Greetings from The District!

I'm here till Friday and then heading to NYC.

I've been having a fabulous time with my friend Leyah and catching up with my dearest friend Abbie.

I'll fill you in on all the fun things I've been doing later.

But for now, I'm soaking up our Nation's capital and loving every second of it.

Last week I had a less than impressive experience with a guy.

Last week I also saw this article at the grocery store as I was checking out.

How befitting.

I did a double take, because I saw the words 'Man Up & endangered species'.

Such words are super comforting to us non-marrieds.{insert sarcasm}

Don't misunderstand me, I get annoyed with the girls that man bash. Because I have the most amazing father and brothers. And I have had really great guys come into my life as well.

So I know the amazing guys are out there.

But I must say at times I feel like the real men are an endangered species.

Autumn Picnic

Picnics are always a good idea, no matter what the season.

Well maybe not in the winter, unless I'm cozy in an igloo. But you get what I'm saying right...

We had a wonderful picnic with leaves crunching beneath us, herbal tea, mallows roasting by the fire, lomito's,{a divine traditional Chilean pork sandwich with avocado's and tomatoes, my fave}& hilarious stories told round the fire.

I think picnic's in the fall need to happen every year. I'm even thinking I'll start making my own tradition of it.

p.s. I'm watching the live coverage of the Chilean miners being rescued and I can't help but be overcome with joy for them. To think 2 months being underground and today we get to see history unfold before our eyes as they are brought up one by one. It's a modern day miracle.

Today was the first day it felt like autumn.

It's felt like an Indian summer here in Utah, with temperatures in the high 80's up until today.

That's fine and dandy and all, but I like to have my season's. Summer had her fair share of time.

Now it's time for that delicious chill in the air, spiced aroma's, warm drinks that soothe me, cracklin' fires, layered clothes and all the other things that make up autumn.

I am looking forward to it all.

Apple Pie

Can you believe I made my very first pie from scratch a couple weeks ago?

It was such a monumental occasion that I have a picture of me with the pie, as seen above.

Don't get me wrong, I've assembled pies before, you know buy the crust pre-made, dump the pie filling from the can in the pre-made crust and then put it in the oven.

It's shameful I know, but I was always intimidated about making pies, because it seemed to be something that mother's and grandmother's did and had a whole science and theory behind the recipe.

Those days are from the past now.

I was watching my amazing friend and roomie Brett whip up these pies from scratch and I thought it was high time I gave it a try.

So with some direction and a recipe from Brett I made the most scrumptious apple pie.

Goodbye days of the cans and pre-made crusts and hello to all the pies I plan on making.

I have a hunch we are going to have a wonderful relationship!

Can I get a do-over?

I literally just woke up from a much needed nap.

Had no clue what day it was, I was out. I had to look at my calender to remind me.

It's been one of those days that we all have and want to pretend don't exist.

Last night I got 2 and a half hours of sleep due to a work deadline. As I was working into the wee hours of the morning all I could think of was how much I longed to be a kid again.

Where deadlines didn't nag at us, headaches from lack of sleep never occurred and life was just simple.

On rainy days like it was today, that's when I really want to be a kid again. I admit I had a charmed life as a kid. I'd come home from school to my mom's yummy homemade bread or cookies fresh out of the oven, we were welcomed home with a hug and would plop ourselves on the couch for a bit of t.v. time.

Oh it was truly splendid!

Those were the days.

But for now--grown-up life-- I'll settle for a little relaxing time catching up on Hulu with some shows and my comfy sweats and the reassurance that tomorrow is a new day--thank goodness!

State Fair

I don't remember the last time I stepped foot on the Utah State Fair grounds, perhaps because I never have or it'd been since elementary school. Either way, I am pretty sure I would have remembered the smells of fried food, livestock, mullets, & pig racing amongst other great spectacles. It was good entertainment alright, the people watching was spectacular, bringing out Utah's finest and classiest people. The food was drenched in fat, and don't worry that I fully planned on consuming and enjoying. The funnel cake with bavarian cream was divine, although right after I wasn't feeling so divine. All in all though, the state fair lived up to its expectations--who knows, I might be back next year for some more of all my favorites.

These 2 goofballs will be missed around these parts. They are quite the talented lacrosse players and got scholarships to go play for Adams State in Colorado.

I guess that's a good enough excuse to leave.
